Exterior-Grade Products
Nick's uses professional stains and clear coatings selected for wood doors, including exterior wood door sealers designed to resist fading, yellowing, cracking, and deterioration.
UV Protection
Our stains and coatings include UV protection to help maintain the look of the wood while highlighting the natural character of mahogany, alder, oak, cedar, poplar, and other species.
Hand-Finished Quality
Every door is carefully prepared, stained, sealed, inspected, reassembled, and packaged by our finishing team in Crown Point, Indiana.
What We Use to Finish Your Door
Professional Wood Door Finishing
We use a crystal-clear, water-based Urethane exterior wood door sealer imported from Italy. It features nano-technology along with both UV absorbers and blockers to help maintain a furniture-grade finish in perfect condition for years—far longer than competing brands.
Our stains are made from fine, micro-ground minerals that won’t fade with exposure to UV rays, unlike dyes and pigment stains.
To top it off, everything we use for our wood door finishing services is eco-friendly, low VOC, and safe for the environment to meet ISO 14001 certification standards.
Thicker Clear Coat Protection
Nick's applies a 12 mil protective clear coat, compared to the typical 8 mil finish used by many manufacturers. The additional coating thickness provides greater protection against UV rays, moisture, and everyday wear, helping extend the life of your door's finish and better protect your investment.

Our 13-Step Finishing Process
Our standard finishing process is designed to protect all six sides of the door and prepare the complete system for shipment.
Carefully disassemble the door system to reach behind hinges, nooks, crannies, and all six sides of the door.
Caulk and glaze all glass areas to help prevent water intrusion.
Tape off windows and thresholds to protect them from overspray.
Apply wood filler where needed to help create a smooth surface.
Remove wood imperfections with a steaming process when necessary.
Sand bare wood by hand.
Apply UV-protective stain by spray gun so the finish soaks into the wood.
Apply the first coat of sanding sealer to all six sides, then block sand raised grain.
Allow 24 to 48 hours of curing time.
Caulk exterior glass and where jamb legs meet the threshold, then remove taping.
Reassemble the door system, including sweep, astragal boot, and weather-stripping.
Prepare the door system for shipping with protectors and shrink wrapping.
Move the door system to shipping for complete protective crating.
